Sidewalk Art at Walmart

I found this little guy drawn on the sidewalk out in front of Walmart. I walked past it and then had to come back for a picture. I'm pretty sure it's drawn around a gum spot.

Resting B**** Face

"You need a better smile and a better attitude."

I was actually having a very pleasant day and I was quite happy. But sometimes my face gets all blank like this and sometimes I think my smile looks weird so I don't smile as much.

It's funny because she was mad at me because her card got declined. (It happens all the time and usually it's Walmart's fault but there's nothing we can do.) Then since she hadn't used a check there in so long I had to put in her license number and phone number. Some people get really upset when I have to put their phone number in the computer.

It's one thing to criticize my work, it's another to criticize me.

So I wished her a nice day and then promptly told all of my coworkers about it.

Moral of the story: Be careful what you say and do because you might just turn into the workplace joke. Alternately if you are awesome to us we will brag about you endlessly.

I'm Done With Christmas

As a Walmart cashier I have to deal with some pretty weird people. Since it's still only a couple weeks after Christmas we have a ton of Christmas stuff left (They finally marked it down to 75% off. There was this older couple who came through my line about 9:45am (I started work at 9) with two carts filled with Christmas stuff. Cups, ornaments, stuffed animals, bowls, place mats. Just tons of stuff from the clearance section.

I hate glitter Christmas ornaments. I had to scan over 400 (I'm guessing) Christmas ornaments, all covered in glitter, while trying to watch and make sure none were broken. The register stopped me halfway through their transaction to tell me it had reached the maximum amount of items. The max is apparently 384 (or something, it was a weird number). So they paid and I continued.

All in all their transaction was about $250. Meaning that if they had paid full price it would have been about $1000 worth of stuff.

I have no idea what they're going to do with it all, but it was way more than anybody needs. Oh well, it's out of the store now and that's what's important.

First Day of Walmart

Today was my first day cashiering at the Marshall Walmart. I've cashiered before at my other Walmart but they had the updated register system. This one is older and isn't nearly as bad as the computer learning program told me it was going to be. There's still a few things I haven't figured out like how to make a check for more than the amount.

I had to do basically every complicated thing possible. I had to do a tax exempt transaction, a WIC transaction, I was put on the cigarette lane so I spent the day carding people and trying to figure out which type of cigarettes they wanted (they all look the same to me). I had a guy yell at me because it took 15 minutes for him to check out and it was at that point that I ran out of $1 bills which angered him further. I had another lady get mad at me because her card kept getting denied.

There were a lot of nice people too and it was also the lane where the Magic the Gathering cards are kept so I got to talk to some guys about that, which was fun. And then I was the only cashier for about half an hour between the day cashiers and the night cashiers. Then I had to stay 15 minutes late because there was a rush of people. I was very happy to go home.

One Month Anniversary and First Day of Work

Josh and I have been dating for a month now but it barely feels like it. But I suppose that’s because we started dating a week before school ended, but also partially because I can’t believe I’m dating him. He just makes me so happy. I’ve been dancing around my house the last three weeks. It’s like nothing can bring me down, not even my sister.

Today is also my first day of work and also the day I get to find out whether I have to work next week or if I can go visit my friends down in Marshall. I hope I get to visit friends. I don’t mind dish washing, the only complaints I have is that the kitchen is hot and the hours of running around make my feet hurt.
