Venus Fly Trap

Walmart got a box of Venus Fly Traps in their garden center the other day. I knew I had to buy one. This time I'm going to try really hard not to kill it. I accidentally over watered my last one.

My co-worker also wanted one and he was asking me all of these questions about it because I know more about plants than he does. So I looked it up online and it seems relatively easy to take care of. You just have to keep the dirt moist, but not wet, and only feed it living flies if it is unable to catch any itself. It also requires full sun and the dark pink is an indicator that it is getting enough sun. They like sandy soil that offers good drainage.

So we'll see how this goes.

I'm Gonna Have a Garden This Year

Got my seeds going. I started these about a week and a half ago. My peppers are lazy and haven't decided to show their pretty faces yet. I've got some lettuce, kale, beans, dill, basil, thyme, tomatoes, and some other things. I've got to thin them out but I can't bring myself to do that just yet. They're just so cute and little.

I let them enjoy the sunshine while I was grilling. It was over 60 degrees outside. A nice change from the 30-40 degree weather we've been having lately. It was also sunny, it's been cloudy the last week as well.

Cleaning the Garden

I didn't work yesterday and it was finally not raining so I figured I better get outside and get some work done on the front garden. There's this ground cover that's basically taken over everything. It's nice in some spots but not in my garden.

This picture is from when we moved in so just imagine that everything has grown like 2 feet.

I forgot to take an actual before picture before I started working. But I've also been working on it bit by bit just trying to make some progress.

I made a ton of progress yesterday. There's actually rocks and a plastic barrier surrounding the garden. So I got those pulled up and got all of the weeds pulled out of them. A lot of the ground cover escaped the edges of the garden and was starting to take over the grass. Our landlord mows the lawn for us so we don't have to worry about that. I just want to keep things looking clean.

Looking at the pictures it's hard to believe it's the same yard. I can't wait until I can get the rest of it cleaned out. I also can't wait for my peonies to bloom.

There's also a couple dead plants in there that I'm going to try to replace by the end of the summer. But who knows. I also plan to put down some new weed barrier fabric and get some new mulch too. That should keep at least some of the ground cover from popping back up.
